More on the Nature of Bug

Well, I've managed to achieve higher consciousness on The Nature of Bug. After a few margaritas and spirited discussion, it turns out that what I may have been getting at is that bugs simply manisfest our own personal limitations. If code is a reflection of your inner soul, bugs are the hobgoblins that demonize and keep you from Reaching Your Potential.

So, really, you should look inside for the answers. Understand your limitations and weaknesses, and work to overcome them at a fundamental level. Debuggers are like psychiatrists - not entirely useless, but if you're using one, either your problems run deep or your makeup needs fortification.

More on this soon ...?

Michael Anthony Baklava

This is the funniest shit ever. A few weeks ago, I had a party at my pad. We're toying with Rhapsody, and given the age group, Van Halen pops through the rabbit hole.

So, right in the middle of the normal Eddie Van Halen/David Lee Roth conversation, right in the middle of the thickest track, I hear a thread of conversation ... "Man, you know what the best part of Van Halen is? You know what they really had? Michael Anthony's backup vocals are just amazing!"

WTF!! Bwahahahaha, I'm nearly on the ground on this one. I manage to squeak out - "Michael Anthony's backup vocals are like, the smallest grain of crushed walnut in the 18th filo dough layer of the Van Halen baklava"

But, on deeper reflection - his backup vocals are pretty good. I'm a little bummed that his bass skills weren't mentioned. Actually they were, and people are like, "well, he only played like one note". IT WAS THE RIGHT DAMN NOTE U HOMOS.

The Nature of Bug

Recently, someone introduced me to Firebug, a javascript debugging environment.

Now, I am not really a debugger user - call me what you will, but I prefer to:
  • put stdout, println, alert, what have you
  • ponder deeply
So, in keeping with the second item, I began thinking more deeply about this. Part of it is that I am just lazy. But, there is a deeper meaning ... a deeper reason.

I believe that by using these superficial tools, that "step" you through code (that you should be able to "step through" in your mind), you are merely scratching the surface. In doing this you are only trying to discover the nature of the bug. As opposed to - The Nature of Bug. There are those for whom the discovery of a thousand truths will lead them to the one truth. And there are those who will discover that there is no one truth, but a thousand truths, a million truths. And then there are those for whom, no truth exists. And this search, this discovery about the Nature of Bug, is really just a discovery of yourself. Because realizing the Nature of Bug is really just a self-realization.

So ... I uninstalled Firebug.
